Day Four: Reykjavik

Scuttling around the city, we headed over to the Hallgrímskirkja, known to be the largest church and sixth tallest structure in Iceland. It was built in 1937 and designed by Guðjón Samúelsson and said to be modeled after the basalt lava flows. It sure does look like it! At first glance, I thought maybe it was a mormon church. However, as are most of Iceland's churches, it is Lutheran.

During our stroll around town, the architectural materials used for local houses really surprised me. They are made of tin! Doesn't that get terribly cold during wintertime?

what a community!
Check out our digs for the first and only night with an in-suite bathroom! We moved to the 6-person dorms for the rest of our stay because it would be too expensive otherwise.
